Andrews FCU gives back

Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., assembled backpacks that were distributed to children from local low-income families. Separately, the CU sponsored the 2017 Presidential Airlift Group/Fisher House Golf Tournament. All proceeds went to the Fisher House at Joint Base Andrews.

NEFCU's $20,000 scholarship

Nassau Educators FCU, Westbury, N.Y., named Tara Faraone the recipient of its 2017 Making a Difference Premier Scholarship award, a $20,000 grant Tara will use toward her studies beginning this year at SUNY Cortland.

Truliant welcomes congressman

Truliant FCU, Winston-Salem, N.C., hosted U.S. Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) in a roundtable discussion of issues with representatives from eight credit unions across North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District. The event was coordinated by the Carolinas Credit Union League.

What it takes to be No. 1

St. Anne’s CU, Fall River, Mass., was voted No. 1 in the Community Banks/Credit Unions in Swansea by Wicked Local Media readers, and it was the No. 1 Financial Institution in SouthCoast Media Group’s “Best of the Best” for 2017.

More than 150 Lawrence General Hospital employees enjoyed ice cream that was scooped and served by the staff of RTN FCU, Waltham, Mass., at an ice cream social sponsored by RTN.

SDCCU stuffs the bus

San Diego County CU’s SDCCU Stuff the Bus, held in partnership with the San Diego County Office of Education and iHeartMedia radio stations, yielded more than 6,400 backpacks and 215,000 school supplies for students. Separately, SDCCU was named San Diego’s BEST Credit Union for the 18th consecutive year by readers of The San Diego Union-Tribune.

A bright spot

Michigan State University FCU, East Lansing, Mich., was named as a 2017 Michigan Economic Bright Spot by Corp! magazine. MSUFCU was honored in the Large Business category for its continued operational expansion and contributions to Michigan’s overall economic growth through hiring and retaining Michigan talent and helping drive forward the state’s economy.

Record-breaking donation

Calcite CU, Rogers City, Mich., wrapped up its 2017 fundraising season for the charity “Friends Together.” The CU’s numbers for 2017 were record-breaking and in excess of expectations, as it raised $18,760.31.

Book bag give-away

Great Lakes CU, Bannockburn, Ill., supplied local elementary students with needed school supplies. GLCU’s Antioch branch provided school supplies to the 8th Annual Book Bag Give-Away event in Kenosha, Wis., with crayons, spiral notebooks, markers, hand sanitizers and other donated items for low-income families.

Best of the best

For the 11th consecutive year, Greater Nevada CU, Carson City, Nev., was voted Best Financial Institution in the Nevada Appeal’s Best of Carson City awards. GNCU also took top honors for Best Bank and Best Credit Union in the Reno News & Review Best of Northern Nevada awards.

Supporting educators

First Financial FCU of Maryland, Lutherville, Md., joined the efforts of The Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools in taking part in the annual Back to School Festival at Boscov’s.
