Fagen Named New CUES CEO

MADISON, Wis.-The Credit Union Executives Society has named Charles E. "Chuck" Fagan as its new president and CEO, effective Jan. 3, 2013. Fagan will replace the retiring Fred Johnson, who has led the organization for the past 23 years. Fagen is currently executive vice president of PSCU, St. Petersburg, Fla. "The privilege to lead the CUES organization in a time of great opportunity for credit unions is one that I honor and embrace," said Fagan. "Tomorrow's credit union decision makers face a very promising future for growth and prosperity." Fagan is already a CUES member, and has a background that includes positions with Electronic Data Systems and Virginia CU.

Treichel Named NCUA Exec Director

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA has named Mark A. Treichel as its next executive director, succeeding David Marquis, who will retire at the end of 2012. Treichel has served in a number of capacities at NCUA since his initial days as an examiner in 1986, most recently as the regional director for NCUA's Region 1 office in Albany, N.Y.

Burd Announces Upcoming Retirement

COLUMBUS, Ind.-Loretta Burd, president and CEO of Centra CU the past 25 years, said she will retire at year-end after working at the one-time Cummins employees' credit union for 47 years. During that time, Burd, who began work at the credit union as a clerk, built the credit union to $1 billion in assets and 125,000 members.

CU Direct Buys Lifestyle Loan Co.

ONTARIO, Calif.-CU Direct Corp., parent to CUDL, has expanded its retail loan operations with the acquisition of Lifestyle Lending Insights, a Salt Lake City provider of so-called lifestyle loans-for medical or retail purposes-through credit unions. Lifestyle Lending has a network of more than 750 merchants in 16 states and its network provides loans ranging from financing a child's braces and other medical procedures, to retail financing for a variety of industries.

TruMark A Best Place To Work

TREVOSE, Pa.-TruMark Financial Credit Union has been recognized as one of the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania 2012 for the fourth consecutive year in the "large-sized company" category. The award identifies, recognizes, and honors the best places to be employed in Pennsylvania and is part of a joint public/private partnership between a number of organizations and the Central Penn Business Journal.

Eternal Flame Winners Are Named

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.-Jeremy Calva, VP-chief strategy officer with America's Christian CU, and CoastHills FCU in Lompoc, Calif. have been named the winners of the 2012 Kim Bannan Eternal Flame Awards. The awards recognize efforts that contribute to the success and future of Shapiro Group CUs, which are small CUs. Calva is being recognized for his long-time dedication to providing education to small CUs, including developing ambitious training and education programs. CoastHills FCU is being honored for supporting the Shapiro Group and for support of SLO CU in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Both will be recognized at the league's annual meeting in November.

Live, Work In Dominican Republic

MADISON, Wis.-World Council of Credit Unions is calling for U.S. credit union applicants for its International CU Leadership Program, next taking place in the Dominican Republic in Jan. 13-26, 2013. Eleven positions are available. The program provides each participant with free lodging through a local host family, a food stipend, local transportation, travelers insurance and a modest communications stipend. Applicants must be able to participate in the full two-week program in order to qualify for selection. The sponsoring U.S. credit union is responsible for covering an airfare cost of $1,350. LAS VEGAS-The Education Credit Union Council has released details of its 2013 annual meeting, which will be held at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel in Las Vegas Feb. 16-19.
