Three-Way Merger Is Completed
COLUMBUS, Ohio-Three local credit unions; Members First CU, Powerco CU and Western CU have completed a rare three-way combination to form a new $190 million credit union called Pathways Financial CU. The newly formed credit union has adopted a unique branding strategy with each of its six branches co-branded with the new name and underneath it the original credit union moniker. Pathways will serve more than 25,000 members at American Electric Power CO and Motorists Insurance, as well as residents in the four surrounding counties of Franklin, Delaware, Madison and Union.
Jekel Named Winner of Jay Award
DENVER-Washington state regulator Linda Jekel, a past NASCUS chairman and longtime NASCUS Board Director, has been named the 2012 NASCUS Pierre Jay Award. Jekel was honored with the award during the NASCUS State System Summit. "Recipients of the award best demonstrate outstanding service, leadership and commitment to NASCUS and the dual chartering system," NASCUS said.
Re-elected to the NASCUS Board were Mary Hughes (also elected as chairman-elect) of the Idaho Department of Finance and Werner Paul of Virginia's Bureau of Financial Institutions. John D. "J. D." Fields of the Louisiana Office of Financial Institutions has been appointed to the board. John Kolhoff was elected Secretary/Treasurer.
Meanwhile, the NASCUS Credit Union Advisory Council has elected or re-elected a number of members, including Ron McDaniel of California CU, Patty Idol of Mountain CU, Cathie Tierney of Community First CU, and Dan Kester of Sooper CU. Bob Fouch of Corporate Central Credit Union in Wisconsin has been appointed to represent corporate CUs.
Gilbody Named CEO At Leominster
LEOMINSTER, Mass.-Leominster CU, one of the biggest credit unions in western Massachusetts, has hired Paul Gilbody, a senior executive with Bay State Savings Bank, as president and CEO of the $620 million credit union. Gilbody will succeed Gordon Edmonds, who has been with the credit union since 2001 and has been CEO since 2007. Gilbody is a 25-year banking industry veteran and is currently executive vice president, chief operating officer and senior lender at Bay State Savings Bank, where he has worked for the last 15 years. Before that he served as a vice president at the former Fleet Bank.
Scott Wins Paul Revere Award
ARLINGTON, Va.-NAFCU has named Cyndy Scott, SVP-marketing for Tower FCU, as winner of its 2012 Paul Revere Award, which recognizes the credit union grassroots activist of the year.
"Cyndy has been a tireless advocate for credit unions," said NAFCU CEO Fred Becker. "She goes the extra mile in assisting NAFCU's legislative and regulatory efforts."
NAFCU Promotion Wins Award
ARLINGTON, Va.-NAFCU has won a Thoth Award from the National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America in the category of "Media Relations: Radio Campaign" for its 2011 media tour, "Avoiding a Holiday Budget Hangover. NAFCU won the award with News Generation, a PR firm. The campaign, which featured on-air interviews NAFCU CEO Fred Becker, Jr., reached more than 27 million adults.
CUs Urged To Apply For Grants
MADISON, Wis.-The National Credit Union Foundation is urging CUs to submit grant proposals to the Financial Capability Innovation Fund II (FCIF II), an initiative led by the Center for Financial Services Innovation (CFSI). FCIF II provides assistance to innovative nonprofit-led interventions designed to promote financial capability among low-income and underserved consumers. Defense Council Elects Board
DENVER-Patricia Kimmel, president/CEO of Belvoir FCU in Woodbridge, Va., has been named chairman of the Defense Credit Union Council. Also elected were: 1st Vice Chair, Denise Floyd, president/CEO of Fort Sill FCU; 2nd Vice Chair. Gordon Simmons, president/CEO of Service CU in Portsmouth, N.H.; Secretary, Frank Padak, CEO of Scott CU, Collinsville, Ill.; and Treasurer, David Davis, president/CEO of Pacific Marine CU in California. Newly elected to the board were Barbara Geraghty, board member with ABNB FCU, and Michael Kloiber, CEO of Tinker FCU.
