Changes On The CUES Board

MADISON, Wis.-The Credit Union Executives Society said Joe Hearn, president/CEO of $1-billion Dupaco Community CU in Dubuque, Iowa, has been appointed to its board. Hearn will fill the remainder of the term left vacant by Frederick D. Healey, management development consultant at $868-million IBM Southeast Employees' FCU, Boca Raton, Fla., who recently resigned from the CUES board. Healey will serve in an ad hoc position through the board's February 2013 meeting. Also re-elected to the board were Lary B. McCants, CEO of IBM Southeast Employees' FCU (who is chairman), and Chris McDonald, CEO of $ Andrews FCU.

Floridians, Alabamans Are Honored

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-The League of Southeastern Credit Unions has recognized several people and credit unions. Recognized for Distinguished Service was Jimmy Lankford of Alabama CU, Tuscaloosa; as Professional of the Year was Rich Helber of Tropical Financial CU, Miramar, Fla.; as Volunteer of the Year Martha Frasier of Space Coast CU, Melbourne, Fla.; as Credit Union of the Year in the category of up to $100 million in assets, Monroe County FCU; as CU of the Year $100-$500 million in assets, Alabama CU, and as CU of the Year $500 million or more in assets, Army Aviation FCU, Daleville, Ala. The LSCU also presented the "Brother's Keeper" Award to Pen Air FCU, Pensacola, Fla., for lending its mobile branch to Community Credit Union of Gadsden, Ala., after a tornado destroyed its Rainsville branch.

Meanwhile, Mary Ott Wood, president/CEO of Florida West Coast CU in Brandon, Fla., has been elected chairman, while Leianne Harden of Florida Customs FCU, Tampa; Jeanette Keller of Blue Flame CU, Mobile, Ala., and Steven Nazaruk of Tallahassee FCU have been elected to the board.

Two People Join Catalyst Board

PLANO, Texas-Following its consolidation with Western Bridge, Catalyst Corporate FCU has added two people to its board: Trevor Tokishi, EVP with Valley Isle Community FCU in Kahului, Hawaii, and Bill Before, VP/CFO with Spokane Teachers CU in Washington. The board is chaired by Lin Hodges, president/CEO of Associated CU in Norcross, Georgia.

More Mergers Are Announced

BETHPAGE, N.Y.- Bethpage FCU is absorbing via merger the $5.6-million Local 342 FCU, which serves 2,071 members from its one location in Mineola, N.Y. Meanwhile, in Smithfield, R.I., the $1.3-billion Navigant CU is absorbing via merger the $68-million Columbus CU, Warren, R.I. And in Baltimore, the $2.7-million Mercy Health Services Employees FCU, which has just 99 members, is being absorbed by the $1.2 billion asset MECU of Baltimore.

40 More Graduate From EFCCP

NAPERVILLE, Ill.-With the completion of its final webinar, the Illinois CU League said 40 more people from 19 CUs have graduated from its REAL Solutions Enhanced Financial Counseling Certification Program, moving them one step closer to earning designation as Certified Credit Union Financial Counselors (CCUFC). The final designation of becoming a CCUFC will be awarded by CUNA upon successful passage of two in-person proctored exams. To boost participation, the Illinois Credit Union Foundation covered the cost of the REAL Solutions enhancement, which had been shared among the participants last year, so the only cost to Illinois credit unions this year was the purchase of the FiCEP books and exams from CUNA. The ICU Foundation also made scholarships available to help offset participant costs for this program.

Cash New CEO At CommonWealth One

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-The $300-million CommonWealth One FCU has named Charlotte H. Cash as its new president and CEO. Ms. Cash has been with the credit union for 27 years, serving as VP-retail sales and marketing for the last 12 years. Cash succeeds John Blair who retired July 20 after 18 years as CEO.

NACUSAC Honors Treml, Doeren Mayhew

DEL MAR, Calif.- The National Association of Credit Union Supervisory and Auditing Committees (NACUSAC) has honored one person and one company for their contributions. Linda Treml, past Audit Committee Chairman of First Florida Credit Union, was named NACUSAC's 2012 Golden Service Award winner. Doeren Mayhew was recognized as NACUSAC's 2012 Associate Member of the Year.

Meanwhile, NACUSAC held its board elections. Incumbents Michael MacFeeters, Examining Committee chairman with Credit Union of New Jersey; Bill Stauder, Supervisory Committee chairman with Vacationland FCU, and W. Cecil Short, Supervisory Committee chairman with Educational Systems FCU were reelected to three-year terms. The executive committee includes Chairman Gerald Dunning of Caltech FCU and Partners FCU; Vice Chairman, Michael MacFeeters of CU of New Jersey; Secretary, Cecil Short; Treasurer, Tom Suter of Wescom CU, and Member, Maureen McCabe of Fairwinds CU.
