WATERBURY, Conn. – Waterbury Firefighters CU said it has changed its name to FD Community FCU to reflect the community charter for the city of Waterbury and recognizing its heritage founded in the city’s fire department.
The community charter for the $60-million credit union encompasses Waterbury and the eight surrounding towns of Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Prospect, Plymouth, Thomaston, Watertown and Wolcott.
“We will never forget our roots and who we are,” said CEO Michael Kinne in a recent letter sent to members. “We have always been proud of our name and of our affiliation with the firefighters. This long-standing affiliation guided us to carefully choose our new name.”
Chartered in 1934, FD Community FCU is the oldest financial institution in Waterbury.
