FORT WAYNE, Ind. – 3Rivers FCU on Friday said it will be closing its Van Wert, Ohio branch on June 15 because of declining membership, fewer branch transactions, and the growing trend by members to use online banking, mobile banking and ATMs.

The credit union notified employees and members of the planned closing. All 3Rivers employees have been given the opportunity to stay with 3Rivers in other capacities. Members were notified of the many ways they can continue to do business with 3Rivers.

“While the decision to close a branch is never an easy one, 3Rivers is obligated to act in the best interest of our membership,” said Don Cates, president of the $730-million credit union. “The amount of business taking place is insufficient to cover the costs of operating the branch.”

3Rivers has 17 other locations in northeast Indiana and participates in shared credit union branching.
