CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte Metro CU is introducing a new marketing campaign that kicks off with a 30-second commercial for the Super Bowl on local TV Feb. 3.

This year’s Super Bowl spot, however, is not humorous as were the previous versions, Charlotte Metro said – focusing instead on the “happy place” the credit union, literally and figuratively, puts its members.

Last year’s spot, “Don’t Get Suckered,” featured distinguished men in three-piece suits – representing traditional bankers – who suck money out of unsuspecting people’s wallets. In the 2011 spot an extraterrestrial opens an account, making the point that anyone can open an account at Charlotte Metro. The 2009 commercial featured banking “fee pigs.”

This year’s spot was filmed in Charlotte – at the U.S. Whitewater Center and uptown – and produced by Durham firm Simple Syrup.

The Super Bowl commercial will launch a new marketing campaign for the $290-million credit union that will include TV, radio, billboard, print and online marketing ads. The campaign will run through 2013.
