NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – South Carolina FCU has introduced International Travel Cards EMV in the form of reloadable Visa cards, which it said will ensure members’ security and convenience while traveling worldwide.
South Carolina Federal’s International Travel Cards use a chip for verification rather than relying solely on a magnetic strip, as most cards do in the United States. The chip is critical for acceptance in many European locations.
The “Chip and PIN” system is used in many European countries and reduces the risk of fraud on face-to-face transactions, since the information on the chip cannot be simply copied in the way that a magnetic strip can.
Members can purchase International Travel Cards from any South Carolina Federal branch for a fee of $10.
