Focus Federal Credit Union announced it has earned its Community Development Financial Institution certification.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury notified the $100 million credit union that it met the certification's requirements, according to a news release. Focus FCU is the first Oklahoma City-area credit union to receive the distinction and only the second statewide.
A CDFI is a financial institution that works to provide financial products and services to customers who are underserved by traditional financial institutions.
Currently, Focus FCU offers a variety of products and services, including savings, mortgages, credit builder and rebuilder loans and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. Additionally, the credit union offers credit counseling for people with poor or nonexistent credit.
"CDFI certification will allow us to strengthen our efforts to reach those most in need of accessible and affordable financial products and services," said Kyle Roush, president and CEO of Focus FCU, in the news release.
Focus FCU serves people who live, work or worship in Canadian, Cleveland, Grady, Lincoln, Logan, McClain and Oklahoma counties.
