EUGENE, Ore. – Fast-growing Northwest Community CU will break ground Monday on a new 67,000-square-foot headquarters, which will provide one-third more space than its current offices.

About 150 of the $800-million credit union’s 275 workers will be employed there initially, with the capacity to expand to 300 later.

The credit union plans to sell its current headquarters in the Gateway section of Salem – located in an old Smith’s Furniture store – where it has been since 2001.

Northwest Community has grown through three mergers over the last two years. A merger with UFCW Northwest FCU added a branch in Portland. A merger with the Coos Educators FCU added a branch in Coos Bay and more members on the coast. And, Northwest Community acquired the assets of the failed OUR FCU in Eugene in 2011.
