CANTON, N.C.—Champion Credit Union announced that its board appointed Jake Robinson as its president and chief executive officer, effective Jan. 12, 2015.

Robinson will succeed Mike Clayton, who is retiring after serving as president and chief executive officer at the $190 million CU since December 2005.

"Jake is a highly qualified individual of integrity and high morals," said Clayton in a statement. "He is very capable of leading Champion Credit Union into the future."

The new CEO, who was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Western Carolina University in 2010, started out his career with Champion as a management associate that same year. Robinson was promoted to project manager in 2012. In June of the following year, he graduated from the Southeast CUNA Management School in Athens, Georgia.

By 2014, Robinson became Champion's chief operations officer.

Champion Credit Union, founded in 1932, has more than 24,000 members across parts of western North Carolina.
