OMAHA, Neb. Credit unions in Nebraska are getting ready to celebrate their first Save to Win savings sweepstakes with the choosing of the $25,000 grand prize winner.
The 10 Nebraska credit unions that participated in the savings contest in 2012 reported 1,650 new savings accounts totaling almost $2 million in deposits, according to Brandon Luetkenhaus, director of public affairs for the Nebraska CU League, which organized the statewide savings sweepstakes.
Along with the $25,000 grand prize, the contest awarded $18,000 in smaller monthly prizes, said Luetkenhaus. “What’s important is that the members are saving,” he told Credit Union Journal yesterday. “The key to this program is that we really want help people of modest means to save more.”
Credit unions that participate in the contest will share member surveys on savings of participants that will be compiled by Doorway to Dreams, the Boston non-profit that dreamed up the concept of savings sweepstakes.
The Michigan CU League, which has run its own $100,000 Save to Win contest, is administering the Nebraska contest and will conduct the grand prize drawing for the Nebraska League.
