VIENNA, Va. – Navy FCU’s management council took the battlefield for their annual team building at nearby Antietam National Battlefield in Maryland, site of the famous civil war battle.

“History has many lessons to teach us. What better place than one of the most storied battle sites to learn about tactics and strategy, the importance of communication and of course, leadership,” said Cutler Dawson, president of the $48 billion credit union.

The trip to Sharpsburg, Maryland was one of the annual off-site activities that Navy Federal’s management council participates in, aimed at maintaining the strength of their relationships and collaborative spirit. The group also gained a deeper understanding of the field of battle and the consequences of decision-making while standing on the soil where those lessons were hard learned.

With this year marking the 150th anniversary of the battle of Antietam, one of the bloodiest battles in American history, the group was treated to an especially poignant tour by their Antietam Battlefield Guides tour leader.
