ATLANTA – Several credit unions here partnered to offer free gas at a local Shell Station.

Credit Union of Atlanta and Family Savings FCU underwrote the cost of giving $20 in free gas to the first 200 customers in line at the station, on Howell Mill Road near I-75. A spokesperson for FSFCU told local media that consumers are “fed up with higher fees from the mega banks, and we’re trying to tell them that they can get great banking products with great service from local credit unions.”

In Middle Tennessee, meanwhile, a group of eight credit union today will have a “gas mob,” during which the first 66 vehicles at a particular gas station will receive $25 in free gas. The participating credit unions also pump the gas for recipients. The promotion is running on five consecutive Fridays, and includes a tie-in with a local radio station, all designed to raise awareness.

The eight participating CUs are US Community Credit Union, Life Credit Union, Electric Service Credit Union, Vanderbilt University Credit Union, Cornerstone Financial Credit Union, Heritage South Community Credit Union, St. Thomas Credit Union, and Wiltruco Employees Credit Union.
