RICHLAND, Wash.-Gesa CU is paying $1 million to help rebuild a historical carousel here and in return will receive the naming rights for the merry-go-round for the next 12 years.

The carousel is expected to be completed in July, 2013 at the Southridge Sports and Events Complex in Kennewick, Wash. It will be called The Carousel of Dreams presented by Gesa Credit Union.

The sponsorship, which was given to the non-profit Tri-Cities Carousel of Dreams Foundation, is a sound advertising investment, explained Gesa President and CEO Christina Lethlean, as it places the CU's name in front of families in this growing area, and shows how the credit union is supporting the community.

"The project to restore this vintage 1910 carousel has been under way for the last 10 years," said Lethlean. "It has been a very time-consuming and expensive task for the foundation, and talked about a great deal in the community and media. Everyone is aware of this. It is a legacy project for the town and is being looked forward to by many families. However, it was clear the foundation needed a strong donation to get the project finalized. Once we stepped up, other donations have followed."

The carousel is expected not only to bring many locals to see it, but also families from around the state and region, offered Lethlean. "We do expect this to become a tourist destination. Besides giving back to our town, we will get a lot of name exposure."
