CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Credit union leaders will break ground on a $300,000 rooftop playground renovation at Levine Children’s Hospital they are leaving behind after this week’s Democratic National Convention, one of two high-profile “leave behind” projects funded by credit unions in conjunction with the two national party conventions.
House Assistant Democratic Leader Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., will be among the featured speakers at the ribbon cutting for the project, which is being funded by CUNA, the North Carolina CU League, South Carolina CU League, National Journal, CUNA Mutual Group and CO-OP Financial Services. The renovation transformed the existing space into a unique healing and respite garden for patients and their families.
CUNA and the League of Southeastern CUs also funded a $300,000 therapeutic playground for the All Children’s Hospital in Tampa as a “leave behind” project at last week’s Republican National Convention.
Since 2000, credit unions have honored cities hosting national party conventions with “leave-behind” projects that serve the communities after the conventions leave town.
