ENGLEWOOD, Colo.-What do new Reg E and interchange rules portend?
"Free checking will be gone if overdraft and interchange revenue decreases," offered Ron Zanotti, SVP-sales for Dynamic Card Solutions. "Financial institutions have to increase volume to make up the difference."
Still, with cash and check transactin volume strong, Zanotti noted, "I think there will be a push by financials to get people to use their debit card more and get rid of cash and check transactions as much as they can. Every time a consumer swipes a card the institution makes money and every time a person writes a check it costs the financial money. I think the pricing matrix is going change-it will cost you to write a check but debit will be free."
As for Dynamic Card Solutions, Zanotti said its CardWizard instant issue product is preparing for a magnetic stripe or chip-based future, including EMV and U.S. contactless.
"We are focusing our R&D on all of the advanced chip-based methods of payment."
