VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Chartway FCU’s We Promise Foundation, which provides funding for children battling life-threatening illnesses, has raised $750,000 so far in 2012.
The credit union’s th Annual Diamonds in the Sky Gala and 14th Annual Charity Golf Classic featured several celebrities – from movie stars and musicians to professional athletes – who traveled thousands of miles in an effort to lend their personal support to the two-day benefit. Joining the credit union’s foundation were actress Marisa Ramirez, known for her starring roles on “Spartacus,” “Bones,” “The Young and the Restless,” “General Hospital” and “Against the Wall;” legendary rock band Three Dog Night; LPGA player and model Anna Rawson; winner of the most recent Travelers Championship, PGA player Marc Leishman; Washington Redskins Alumni; and more than a dozen We Promise children whose stories of hope and hardship inspired the foundation’s supporters.
The gala was complemented by its sister event – the Charity Golf Classic – where these celebrities and a full flight of golfers rounded the turn at the Signature at West Neck Golf Course to help the foundation raise the most money in its history. LPGA golfer and model Anna Rawson even hit the links with the golfers to help them trade their bogey’s for birdies as she teed off with each group on Hole #5.
Dozens of other celebrities supported this year’s fundraising efforts by generously donating autographed items and rare pieces of memorabilia from their personal collections, including NFL players Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Chris Cooley and Shawne Merriman; the Zac Brown Band; country singers Kellie Pickler, Sara Evans, Jake Owen, Chris Young and Josh Thompson; author Jodi Picoult; astronaut Buzz Aldrin; and Olympic gold medalist Bode Miller, just to name a few.
