GROTON, Conn. – Charter Oak FCU has begun construction on its $18-million, 65,000-square-foot headquarters and branch project in nearby Waterford.

The project was designed by Point One Architects of Old Lyme, with engineering services from CLA Engineers, Inc., of Norwich and general contracting by Enterprise Builders of Newington. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 14 months.

Charter Oak, with assets of $750 billion, is the third-largest credit union in the state. It originally was founded as Groton Shipbuilders FCU, associated initially with Electric Boat, noted submarine manufacturers.
